Carter Stowell · Principal
Carter brings a unique sensibility and many years of experience to Web crafting and Web project management. Since relocating from San Francisco to central Vermont in 1999, he has established Figrig as a potent and reliable Web services resource. Carter specializes in information architecture and has amassed a wide range of technical and design capabilities over the years.
Beginning in 1997, Carter honed his skills at San Francisco's Wired Digital, Inc., managing site production for award-winning Wired News, writing articles for Webmonkey and Wired News, and engineering interfaces for the HotBot search engine, the Wired News/ HotBot Stocks site and Wired magazine. Carter earned a B.S.E. in Civil & Environmental Engineering from Duke University's School of Engineering.
Eric Eaton · Designer & Usability Consultant
Eric brings a design acumen all too rare in the online
realm. He is a practitioner devoted to craft and aesthetics,
to usability and functionality. In addition to his frequent
contributions to Figrig projects, Eric is the principal
of Deliberate Design in Portland, ME. His book, Designing
Web Site Interface Elements (Dec 2002), offers advice
for professional designers and developers who use design
and branding to reach a target audience.
Derek Collins · Web Developer
Derek brings a combination of front-end (XHTML, CSS) and back-end (PHP, MySQL databases) coding skills to Figrig. He is an advocate for clean, semantic, standards-based code and website accessibility. He has recently re-engineered and implemented websites for both Prescott College and the City of Prescott, AZ, including training of staff in website maintenance.
When he's not writing code, Derek enjoys outdoor activities including rock climbing and mountain biking. He earned a B.A. in Sustainable Community Development from Prescott College.
Gary Miller · Content Developer
A writer, editor, and documentary filmmaker, Gary Miller has developed multimedia educational and marketing content for a broad range of corporate clients, including PBS, Houghton Mifflin, Harcourt, Lotus, and First Choice Education Group. In addition, Gary has developed Web and film content for WGBH, the Boston PBS affiliate. His work there includes two New England Emmy nominations for script writing and a position as Senior Content Developer for WayBack: US History for Kids. His Web site "Stephen Foster," produced by PBS, won the 2001 Massachusetts Interactive Media Council award for best educational product. Gary's short stories have appeared in numerous national literary journals. His most recent film work is the documentary "Act of Faith."
Sian Foulkes · Designer
Sian combines her training in the fine arts with 10 years experience in graphic design direction to create Web-based solutions focused on information organization, beauty, and ease of use. In addition to frequent contributions to Figrig projects, Sian is the Creative Director of Foulkes Design in Montpelier, VT. Sian was offered her first Web design job in 1997 at N2K and Music Boulevard. Since then she has embarked on an independent career, serving as art director for marketing, advertising, and promotional projects for clients including Estée Lauder, Fleet Bank, Grandstand Entertainment, and Vermont Design Works. Sian has her B.A. from UC-Santa Cruz and her MFA from Hunter College in New York City.
